With dozens of clubs to choose from and a some of the top players in the world playing in the league, you’d be hard pressed to find a consensus favorite player in the English Premier League. But it’s no surprise that three of the “big four” (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United) take up the top five spots in the list of top selling players’ jerseys in the Premier League. The top five sellers are as follows:
#1) Despite not being with the club anymore, after his record £50 million transfer to league foe Chelsea, the top selling jersey this year is the Liverpool #9 kit worn by Spanish striker Fernando Torres. Hot off of his country’s World Cup victory in South Africa in 2010, “El Niño” is dangerous every time he touches the ball.
#2) The next best selling jersey is Torres’ former teammate, the #8 Liverpool jersey belonging to Steven Gerrard. The English central mid, who captains The Reds as well as wore the armband for his country in the 2010 World Cup, is widely considered one of the best footballers in the world, known for his long-range striking ability.
#3) Next on the list is the #10 Wayne Rooney jersey, striker for the Red Devils of Manchester United. Back in 2003, Rooney became the youngest player to ever earn a cap for the England national team at the age of seventeen, the same age he also became the youngest to score an international goal for England. Rooney has amazed fans club and country alike with his speed and aggressive style of play who has an unmatched knack for finding the back of the goal.
#4) Joining Torres on this list is fellow Spaniard Cesc Fabregas, who wears the #4 kit as captain of the Arsenal Gunners. Fabregas wears the captain’s armband as central midfielder and is the club’s playmaker – never more evident than Fabregas appearance as a substitute in the World Cup final and assisting on Andres Iniesta’s game winning goal in extra time.
#5 Andrei Arshavin, the #23 kit for Arsenal, is fifth on the list of the best selling English Premier League jerseys. Captain of the Russian national team, Arshavin plays attacking midfield and also doubles as a second striker on occasion. Arshavin first became noticed on the big stage after his breakout performance for his country in UEFA Euro 2008, and made headlines with Arsenal after scoring all 4 Gunners’ goals in a 4-4 tie against Liverpool at Anfield.
